Using in-built ThickBoxes to run a small gallery in content |

ThickBoxes, when added to your site template, can offer a lot of help in running content throughout your webpage. ThickBoxes can show both images and html pages.
Before we go one, for those who are just beginners, what is a ThickBox? Since we are talking about programming languages and setting up a gallery on a Joomla site, we are certainly not referring to those thick cardboard you use to store books, papers, and other unwanted stuff. Although ThickBoxes can contain content that is also the material in books, we are still talking about two different things here. Going back, a ThickBox is a webpage User Interface, or called UI for short, is dialog box that is written using JavaScript. What does it do? ThickBoxes are used to show images, one or two or up to how many you want that can fit your webpage, framed or inline text and content, and even content in html and AJAX.
Before you go ahead and set-up your thickboxes, you need the four files required for the ThickBox to properly work. You need jQuery.js, thickBox.js, thickBox.css, and loadingAnimation.gif. You need to save the files to your computer, but be sure to use appropriate folders. Use "_styles" to store the thickBox.css file, "_scripts" folder to store the files in JavaScript, and so on. This will help you lessen confusion as you work your way through the set-up. Once you are ready, you can begin implementing your ThickBox by preparing the JavaScript and CSS templates and include them correctly then include these to your ThickBox CSS file. It may sound confusing now but the steps are easy to follow. You can check several websites online for assistance.
Meanwhile, another good point to ponder on would be the importance and benefits of using ThickBoxes. First is file size. The size of the ThickBox JavaScript code plus the CSS template only measures to 12k. If you add in the jQuery code file, you can only consume up to 60k tops. If you are looking for a website solution that is light weight, then ThickBox is heaven sent for you. Second, ThickBoxes are more flexible and can be used in many ways. You will certainly not feel like you are being boxed up. ThickBoxes have the ability to load html, AJAX, and images. You have more options and you are only limited by your creativity and your knowledge of JavaScript and CSS templates. If images are big, your ThickBox can resize these images to better fit the browser window. Also, once correctly implemented, no amount of user scrolling or browser resizing can change the location of the ThickBox. Yes, the ThickBox remains on the center of the window, or wherever you have placed it no matter what. Lastly (although this is not really the last since there are many benefits that I just may not know of) ThickBox has a lot of built in templates with small abstract patterns. It also can best show the beauty of jQuery once the ThickBox is set-up.
